The Region
Casa Moscata is located only 3 km from Canelli, a market town with a long enological tradition, which is known for having fostered the development of Asti Spumante. Canelli is situated at the center of the Langhe Roero and Monferrato wine growing region which, with its vineyard landscape, hilltop villages, cellars, farmhouses, medieval towers and castles, was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014.
It is also famous for its “underground cathedrals,” enormous wine cellars dug into the hillsides and vaulted in brick, which were designed and built for the production of spumante.
The region is known throughout the world for its wines, Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera and Moscato, to name but a few, and it is easy to organize excursions from Casa Moscata
to discover the numerous local producers, both large and small, to meet the owners, and to taste and test their wines.
The many excellent restaurants that are scattered among the hills and towns offer options that range from Michelin starred establishments to more rustic farm to table agriturismi.
Nizza Monferrato is twenty minutes away by car, while Asti and Alba can be reached in about half an hour. These surrounding towns offer numerous festivals and public events throughout the year, such as the Palio d’Asti and two renown truffle (tartufo) fairs: Fiera Regionale del Tartufo, and the Fiera Internazionale del Tartufo d’Alba with its enogastronomic highlights and the presence of many among the best chefs of the region and beyond.
The calendar includes several artistic and musical events in every season such as Suoni delle Colline di Langhe e Roero and the Roero Music Fest in the summer months.
